Today’s post was brought to you by the letter “B”.
I stumbled upon another dish that could make its way to your Thanksgiving table. I was scouring through Grandma’s recipes again and found a recipe for Bleu Cheesed Sprouts. I quickly pulled it out and knew that I was going to make them instantly. Here are the top 5 reasons I had to make this dish,
- Grandma spelled it Bleu which is exactly how I like to spell blue when referring to cheese.
- I have this new love for Brussel sprouts that dates back to the first time I tasted them all slathered up in butter and deliciousness thanks to a college roommate.
- It sounded so Thanksgiving.
- I could add BACON…
- But seriously, there should be bacon added to every veggie!
Truth be told, this dish would still rock with just the bleu cheese but it certainly turns it up to indulgent holiday binging level when you add the bacon. Better yet, you cook these suckers in the bacon grease just to ensure there is ample baconess.
As a side note, I am currently writing this as an experimental batch of cookies bakes in the oven. If you didn’t know, I am participating in the Great Food Blogger Cookie Swap! I am pretty excited to get my baking on but probably even more excited to have delicious goodness show up on my doorstep in the upcoming weeks. I wish I could give you a sneak peek but you’ll just have to wait and see what comes out of the kitchen.
I just realized (just this exact moment) that I should be getting my body in shape for this holiday season. The holidays are always filled with treats and eats but somehow I feel this year will be that to the nth degree. I need to develop a routine where I can not gain 10 pounds and still enjoy the cookies and bacon that are in my near future.
If you have some helpful holiday fitness tips I am all ears.
Ingredients
- 2 Pints Fresh Brussels Sprouts Rinsed and Trimmed
- 2 Tbsp. Bleu Cheese Crumbles
- 2 Strips of Bacon Diced
- 2 Tsp. Butter
- Salt and Pepper
Instructions
- Bring a pot of salted water to a boil add your brussel sprouts and allow them to cook for 8-10 minutes, don't worry if they are not completely tender. Remove your brussel sprouts and place them in an ice bath to stop the cooking process. Drain and set aside. In a skillet over medium heat add your bacon and cook until your bacon starts to crisp. Remove your bacon pieces and drain the extra fat. Leaving the grease in the pan add your brussels sprouts and butter, season with a little salt and pepper to taste. Cook your sprouts until they start to get some color or brown. Remove your skillet from the heat. Sprinkle the bleu cheese and bacon on the sprouts and gently mix together. If you wish you can put the sprouts in the oven for 5 minutes on low to allow the cheese to melt slightly and to bring all the flavors together. For an extra twist you can drizzle some balsamic vinegar over the top just before serving.
Oh also, in completely unrelated news I just saw this spoof that Sesame Street did on Hunger Games and I loved it. I cannot wait for Catching Fire to come out this week and I am going to do my best to be patient and wait until Thanksgiving to see it with the family…in the meantime, I’ll watch Sesame Street.
