Pimm’s Cup

Hello Summer!

Moraine State Park - Lake Arthur

I hope you all had a wonderful Memorial Day Weekend. The family and I got a chance to really enjoy the beauty of late spring/early summer and the weather could not have been more perfect. Being that Pittsburgh is nowhere near an ocean it is imperative to try to find other nautical outlets if you like being by the water. Thankfully for us there is a large lake not too far from my parents house and it was a no brainer that we would pack a picnic (Duh!) and try to enjoy some of the beauty that nature has to offer.

In addition to taking in the beauty of the world we live in it is also important for me to remember the meaning of Memorial Day and to take time out from the BBQs and picnics to thank those who have fought hard for their country. My family has a long line of veterans and I want to take this time to thank them for their sacrifice and their courage, and for helping to make the world I live in possible. THANK YOU!

Pimm's Cup Fruit

Because it is the official start of summer and because the planet has made me aware that the summer means heat, I decided to make this refreshing beverage as I am sure we will be needed lots of it as the summer goes on.

If you don’t know already Pimm’s is a liqueur that hails from London it has a sort of tea-like taste and is somewhat reminiscent of gin (only somewhat). It is not a very strong liqueur but it makes an excellent summer beverage. A few summer’s back my parents took us to London and Paris for summer vacation, it was our first trip to Europe and it was amazing. While we were in London it was unbearably hot and air conditioners are not a thing in Europe, neither is ice…but I found that a Pimm’s Cup will do the trick! So when summer gets a little too hot just mix up a batch and relax.

Pimm's No. 1

Pimm’s No. 1 is traditionally mixed with lemonade and there are usually some yummy bits added like cucumber or mint. I have decided to call it London’s version of Sangria since you can really put whatever yummy fruits you like to enhance the flavor. Feel free to make your own version or share your favorite recipe below.

That looks amazing. I’m going to try this next weekend! Is Pimm’s easy to find?

    • It should be easy to find, it is considered a liqueur so it might be where they put cordials and mixers depending on the store. If you ask they should know what it is. I hope you enjoy it, for a little more of a kick you can add gin 🙂
