Get ready folks, I am about to make this summer all about the grill!
Summer is about grilling and it just so happens that BBQ runs in the family. My Grandpa Sam makes out of this world Beef Ribs and I am not even joking. It seems everyone who knows him knows he makes amazing ribs, they are so amazing that he wont even share the recipe. I am going to make an honest attempt at getting the recipe before summer ends – grandpa you have been given notice!
My dad is usually the master of the grill and growing up the summer always meant watching him spark up the grill, grab a brew, and take a seat on the deck. Just like the kitchen eventually the family will gather on the deck and take in the delicious fumes. There was always conversation and laughter. We would dine al fresco and continue the laughter through the night until the lightning bugs start to emerge. I know, I just inspired you to run to your grill and fire it up!
I wouldn’t dare to attempt grandpa’s ribs so until the day comes where I have the recipe in hand I’ll just have to do something else. Last summer I attempted making baby back ribs for the first time. The ribs came out ok but I learned a lot about grilling and making ribs. This time around I think I have perfected my process but I know that there is always something new you can learn in grilling and barbecue.
Note: I am watching a BBQ Pitmasters marathon as I type this because what else do you watch when you are writing about BBQ?
I also should give some credit to the local butcher shop where I got my ribs. Mish Farms Meat Market provided the canvas for my BBQ art piece. The ribs were beautiful and made my life so much easier. I highly recommend visiting a local butcher when buying meat and you can even have them give you tips of the trade. Mish had the ribs pre packaged and cut in half slabs, this also made life easier for cooking.
One thing I learned during my first attempt was to monitor the temperature of your grill. As luck would have it it started to rain when I made my first attempt and the rain dropped the temp of my grill immediately. This time around I made sure to keep an eye on the temperature and maybe I was a little paranoid but I would guess that as my BBQ experience expands I’ll learn to relax a bit around the grill (hmm probably not).
mouth watering
