Georgetown French Market

There are many things I love about the Spring. Probably at the top of the list is spring and summer festivals. Festivals bring with them food, music, and generally beautiful weather. I guess the weather isn’t the result of there being a festival but maybe you just get lucky that the festivals happen on days when the weather is particularly pleasant. This past weekend was the Georgetown French Market and the hubby and I decided to attend.

The weather was gorgeous! It was sunny but not hot and I wanted to spend the entire day outside. I was particularly excited about this festival because it meant the presence of French food! I have been to France, Paris in fact, and the food was amazing!! I have yet to find something in this country that rivals the flavors and experience but few places come close.

Still, getting to pretend to be in France, if only for a day, is still fun.

First Stop – Crepes!

Crepes are really, really thin pancakes (Talladega Nights anyone?). They are served with all sorts of toppings both savory and sweet. You might see them most commonly paired with Nutella and Bananas or some other fruit combo. In France we had Crepe Suzette which were flambeed for extra effect. Those have become a favorite in our household as I actually had them for the first time made by my mom.  Cafe Bonaparte made these delightful crepe creations. I had the Nutella-Banana combo and it was delicious.

Second Stop – French Themed Amuse Bouche

There were several tents sponsored by restaurants in the Georgetown area. One of them had my name all over it. They had the best little bite that had a french flare. It was a crostini with fig jam, Serrano ham and asparagus. Clyde’s in Georgetown was behind this yummy plate. Can I also just say that lately I have been really into Fig Jams and other fig things. Where have figs been all my life?!?!?! Later that day I found a fig vinegar that was super delicious, I will be adding that to the pantry soon!

Third Stop – Wine!

Bacchus Wine Cellar was open and packed with visitors. It wouldn’t be a French market without the presence of wine. We made sure not to spend too much time in there because we might have never left. They had an amazing collection of French wines from fancy chateaus they hubby and I added this to our list of places to return to. I’ll have to admit that sometimes we both just stand there looking at the wine as though we hope for the bottles to come to life and tell us which ones are the best. The world is filled with wines, the trick is finding the ones that you love.

Final Food Stop – Macarons!!!!!!

I was so excited to get my hands on these. The good news, they were delicious. The bad news, they were delicious, and I know where to find them! I had to limit myself to getting only six since I figured the hubby and I couldn’t possibly try to eat more. I mean sure we could have tried but it might not have been the healthiest option for dinner. Macaron Bee is a cute little shop dishing up tons of different macarons. The real challenge is deciding which ones you want to eat. If you don’t know much about macarons you can click here to find out more. I found that you have to eat these before they melt, we did find ourselves trying to save them from melting away in the sun. It is a good thing they are bite sized (teehee)!

I will say it was a great day. For a moment I felt transported back to France. I guess if any part of DC feels European it would be Georgetown. I didn’t recall Paris being quite as hilly but nonetheless it was wonderful to pretend for a day.  I took some other shots while at the market, check them out below.
