Our Getaway Experience

Let me start this post off by saying that this IS NOT A sponsored post. We booked this trip on our own and wanted to share the experience with all of you!

So, Getaway is this very popular glamping company that has outposts all around the country. They recently opened up an outpost about 1.5 hours from Pittsburgh in Lisbon, OH. I was hooked the minute I saw their very clever and effective advertising all over Instagram and Facebook. I basically told everyone I knew that I was dying to try it. We aren’t exactly the camping type but we love being outside and COVID has actually made this a perfect way to enjoy some r&r.

We booked a cabin for 3 (2 adults/1 kid) and that defaulted us to a cabin with bunk beds (2 queen beds). All cabins come with a little kitchen area, fridge, bathroom, shower, and table for dining. They also come with a picnic table, Adirondack chairs and fire pit.

They are probably most known for the large window that makes up the back wall of every cabin and provides you with the most amazing views of the nature around you. The window was absolutely perfect and we spent a lot of time looking out and taking it all in.

Since we took the little guy with us we had to think of ways to keep him busy, the views and relaxing by the fire would not likely do the trick. Lucky for us there were hiking trails and even a state park nearby. The property had a trail on it so we started with that one the first day and then we ventured to another one called Hellbender Bluff Trail. Lucky for us, this wasn’t a very populated trail so we were able to wander and stroll sans masks and stress.

For food, I thought through dishes that would be easy to make. Luckily, part of the glamping experience means we had a fridge and cooktop so I could pack things without worrying if they would spoil or be hard to prep. In addition to what I packed, the Getaway crew stocked our cabin with some snacks, coffee, tea, and s’mores!

We did cook over the fire, I mean duh! That was of course the best meal we had since nothing beats a meal cooked over an open fire.

The only downside was our toddler was so excited about the trip that he refused to sleep at a normal time and naps were a straight up no-go. Mommy and Daddy were sufficiently exhausted when we got home but it was that good kind of tired. The weekend lived to the fullest kind of tired. So, if you are looking for a place to get away for a few days I highly recommend Getaway and honestly, I can’t wait to go back.

  1. Thanks for posting! I’m going with my family in December and plan to hike Hellbender bluff. How was the hike? Was it worth doing? Scenic? Thanks!

    • We thought it was really nice and serene. Not sure what it will be like in December but it was a nice hike for us and not at all crowded.
